Cam Wheelan

Cam Wheelan, 18U Boys - Grad Year: 2007

We are proud to announce that Cam Wheelan has been selected to represent Canada on the Senior National Beach Volleyball Team. Cam successfully took part in the selection camp in early December, 2008 held at Beach Blast and joins other athletes as they strive towards the 2012 Summer Olympics.

During his first season with the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks, Cameron Wheelan established himself as a key contributing member of the team. An Under-21 provincial all star, Wheelan ranked third on the team with 128 kills. He has also proven to be a dynamic player, as he placed top three in all of the team’s statistical categories, such as Kills, Blocks, Service Aces. His efforts earned him a spot on the OUA all-rookie team, and he was also named the team’s Rookie of the Year. Cameron has also competed on Team Ontario as the middle and right side in 2006 and 2007. Cam is a proud graduate of the Barrie Elites program.

Jessica Hanna

Jessica Hanna, 18U Girls - Grad Year: 2007

Jessica is a Midhurst native and graduated from École Secondaire Catholique Nouvelle-Alliance in Barrie. She was the former Captain of the 18U girls Barrie Elites and is a past member of Ontario Regional teams.

She played one year on the University of Ottawa Women’s Volleyball Team while she studied École des sciences de l'activité physique.

Mike Hammond

Mike Hammond, 18U Boys - Grad Year: 2007

Make Hammond played the last two seasons at Georgian College in Barrie in 2008 and 2009. For 2010, Mike signed with Thompson Rivers University in B.C. He was Georgian's Male Athlete of the Year in 2008-09. He earned OCAA East Region 1st All-Star Team honours for the second year in a row. After capturing the OCAA Rookie of the Year Award last season, Hammond showed no signs of suffering from a sophomore jinx. He was the OCAA East Region Scoring Champion with 281 points and averaged 4.76 points per game. He is looking forward to the challenge of participating in the CIS.

Halli Pedlow

Halli Pedlow, 18U Girls - Grad Year: 2006

Halli Pedlow from Barrie Ontario and graduate with Honors from St Peter's High School is currently playing with the Queen's Golden Gaels Women's Volleyball Team. Training last year as a red shirt this year was able to crack the line up as a right side player. Halli is studying Kinesiology Health Sciences to pursue career in Medicine. Halli and Sam are the only brother and sister combination playing volleyball at the same university.

Stephen Hawke

Stephen Hawke, 18U Boys - Grad Year: 2006

Steve graduated from ODCVI in Orillia with honours and attended Waterloo University in Nanotech Engineering. Steve played his first year as the libero and serving specialist on the Waterloo Warriors Men's Volleyball team for the 2006/07 season. Steve returned to Barrie and played for the Georgian Grizzlies and is currently studying Accounting at Laurentian University's Georgian Campus. In addition to his full time studies, Steve also finds time to be the Treasurer for the Elites as well as the Head Coach with the Elites 16U Girls team and the 17U Girls team.

Spencer Bell

Spencer Bell, 18U Boys - Grad Year: 2005

Spencer was the former captain of the 18U Boys team and played for 2 seasons as a member of the Guelph Gryphons Men's Volleyball. team. Spencer recently graduated from the University of Guelph in bio-engineering.

Sam Pedlow

Sam Pedlow, 18U Boys - Grad Year: 2004/05

Sam Pedlow graduated from St Peters High School in Barrie with honours. Sam is currently playing in his 3rd year for Queens University Mens Volleyball team. In 2006/2007, Queens repeated as the OUA Champions.

UPDATE: Sam is having another great year. Not only did his Queens University Golden Gaels repeat as O.U.A. Men's Volleyball Champions he also represented Canada at the World Youth Beach Championships in Modena Italy in Sept/07.
