They started with 0 points - but were still lucky enough to be seeded at the bottom of 16U Tier 2. Well, they won the GOLD in Tier 2 !!! This will likely seed them for Tier 1 for their next event. Great work Amanda and Robin! |

An exciting weekend in Pittsburgh as the Barrie Elites sent three teams to compete in the East Coast Championships. The 17U girls came away winning a Gold in the Emerald division posting a 13 and 5 record. They also had the 3rd highest point ratio of all 17U teams in all pools. Congratulations to the coaching squad of Brad Graham, Jason Wilson and Mark Molasy. With girls at this age, it's a good thing the Canadian dollar is also performing well against the American dollar! A great time was had by all, including the many parents that attended.

The comeback kids did it again! The 13U Boys finished 2nd in their pool. After being down 11-2 in their quarterfinal, the mighty Elites came back to win 15-13 against the Titans. In a gutsy, grueling semi-final, the boys lost a tough 3 set match to the Rapids. Showing the kind of character and determination that they have shown all season, the Elites regrouped and rallied together to capture the bronze medal in a total team effort! The parents and coaches of these boys are so proud of their efforts and their support for each other throughout the season. Well done!!!

The 15U Girls Blue team capped off their season over the March 30th weekend with a 5th place finish in their Tier 4 Provincial Championships. They finished 1st in their pool and after a disappointing loss in the quarter-finals, bounced back to take the next 2 matches. The final set of the season saw them claw back from 14-20 and again from 19-24 to scratch out a 28-26 win. Everyone contributed to a great weekend.

The 18u boys had the pleasure of having some computer video analysis done by former National team member , Jason Trepanier. The guys were run through a series of drills , which were caught on video , and then Jason would go over each skill set in slow motion to show where they could improve. They were also able to compare their movements with those of other National team members whose skills had previously been recorded. All in all , a wonderful tool for bringing the game to the next level !

The Elites 13U Boys have a lot to be proud of! Their incredible work ethic and determination has allowed them to place 3rd in their first two tournaments!!! Boosted with their arsenal of powerful serves, the 13U Boys finished undefeated in their pool at the McGregor Cup on February 9th. Unfortunately they were brought down by the Pakmen powerhouse in the semis, but went on to beat the Cyclones handily to bring home the Bronze medal. This fierce group of young men has improved much since the beginning of the season and with some fine tuning will be a force to be reckoned with at the Provincial Championships in April! Well done!! Your coaches and parents are so proud!!

The 15U Girls Black team accomplished something many will never experience again in volleyball, especially with rally point scoring. They overcame a 24-13 deficit to win 27-25. This incredible win combined with their stellar 5 win, 1 loss record at the recent Tier 2 Challenge Cup in Etobicoke helped propel them to Tier 1 for the remainder of the season. Congratulations girls for this tremendous accomplishment!

The Provincial Cup was an all-Elites affair with the 2 Barrie teams leaving North Bay black and blue! Shown above is the 15U Girls Blue team taking a well-deserved rest after defeating the #1 seed, North Bay in an exciting 3 set showdown that came down to a 15-13 victory to seal first place in their pool. Meanwhile, the Black team was busy having success in their own pool, coming out in first place with a 3 set nail-biter of their own against Georgian Vista. That set up an all-Barrie final for 1st place that ended with the Black team coming out on top 25-21 and 25-23. A tremendous start for Barrie as the season gets going!

Willem Steyn and Graham Brownlee competed in the Canadian Beach Nationals this past weekend. The weather was great and the volleyball was top notch.Willem and Graham played outstanding volleyball. They advanced to the 18U Men Tier 2 Gold Medal match and faced a strong team from Quebec. They traded point for point in a closely contested match. In the end they fell just short in a nail biting 3 set game with the third set going to 18-20. Still a great accomplishment winning the 18U Men Tier 2 Silver Medal

It was a long hot day and after many hard fought battles, they ended up in second place, losing a close final in the championship set. Great effort for your first ever beach tournament, girls! |
